My new obsession is popping words into images. Fun!
I’ve always wanted a visual haiku and guess what? I think I’ve found it. I’ve been playing with Artbreeder.com and it’s amazing. It’s an AI that generates images using a combination of words and pictures. Today we’ll start with an old poem I did before using a carousel pictures of mine.

Now I am doing each line in Artbreeder. As I left the collage box blank, the colors are pretty minimal. These are AI images generated from the text

How did I do that?
Artbreeder.com
I went to Artbreeder.com and made an account and joined for free using my google account as a signup. (I selected the beta version because I was curious). The free account allows 3 uploads but they actually already have tons of pictures inside so you don’t need to. Your uploaded pictures stay private unless you put it into the public domain. Pictures you make here are essentially in the public domain and people are allowed to use them and change them as they desire. Of course, they would have to find your picture first but that’s another ball of was.
Green Plus Sign = Collage
Once inside I clicked on the green plus sign in the upper right corner and selected “Collage”. When you first go into collage there is a square in the center with some woods and pieces of a robot. I played with that for awhile but cleared them out for this. So now I have an empty white box with a text box below it.
Type in the text box
I typed in “whirling carousel”. Under the text box is “AI”, that’s a sliding bar. I dragged that little white dot completely over the to right next to the number.
Seeds
The number is a seed and it will generate your image. Change the number and you change the image. Or you can hit reroll after you generated an image
To do a new image after you have created one, you can hit the left arrow key to go back to the creation screen. Or hit reroll if you want to keep working with the same image
Adding stuff into the white box
When you add stuff into the white box, it effects the image depending on how much AI input you’ve put. If you’re slider Ai button is all the way to the left and all you is the letters AI, you will get something very like your picture or blotches of colors. If you have the AI blue slider all the way to the right, the AI make take elements or may just use the colors to create the image.
Here, I will show you. I put in a longer strand of words. (Spelling matters so check yours before you input it as it won’t correct)

so this is what happens with that line, a white empty space and seed #42
Same line with the carousel picture above and AI slider about 50%, seed 42
Same line, picture at AI 100% blue line all the way to the right, seed 42
now for fun, i will add a pink square, blue blobs and neogreen for color
they have a tool box on the left side that lets you do stuff
The little tattoo pen lets you draw shapes. The scissors lets you cut off areas of shapes or pictures that you have. The image icon lets you choose pictures that are already available or that you uploaded. The green arrow puts you back to regular stance so you can type in your box and render.
I used the pen to draw shapes. Once you draw the shape, click the green arrow and click on the shape. A rainbow circle shows up below and and you can fill in the color with a few choices in textures. You can see the black outline square where the new picture will be created.
And this is what I got
Okay, maybe the AI went a little crazy with the neon green but you get my drift.
Don’t Forget to Save the Ones you Like
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, if you want to keep the pictures, hit that little save button next to the reroll button. Otherwise it might be hard to recreate them. Click on your profile to get to the stack of pictures you’ve saved.
Unfortunately there is not good way to organize your stack. You can use tags which also lets other people use your pictures in their creations which would be cool.
If you really like it, you can download your image. You are limited to 5 a month as a freebie. The download converts it to a bigger copy which you can then right click and save. I’m not sure because I don’t think the collage saves into a bigger copy. Apparently the “splice” option does because it’s been around longer.
And what happens if I do just the original carousel picture and paste in the whole haiku?
