Yeah, it snowed today.  Weird.

The wash behind the house, usually a dry river bed, flows with muddy running water, the color of shit.  It’s rare to see any water down there.

It’s not quite cold enough for snow, melting as it hits the flat cacti paddles, running down like so many tears, but bitter enough to pile up on the edges.

I pull on a shirt, sweater and down jacket.  Find the umbrella. Walk out into the hushed cotton desert. The cold bites me.  I bite back.
