Raspberries and coffee for breakfast perks the brain up. a simple beginning of the day — long term benefits for life.  This just in.  Coffee really is good for your brain. What you don’t believe me?

Baltimore longitudinal study of aging found that a high-quality diet and higher caffeine intake benefited the brain and slowed down aging declines in global cognition, verbal memory. The older you are, the more the benefits showed with people over 70 showing that higher caffeine is more noticeably beneficial.

I couldn’t quite figure out what their definition of higher intake was as it was in the stat and equation heavy section of the synopsis and it made my brain whirl. I need more coffee to understand it.  Looks at the pot.  Looks at the stats.  Hmmm, just pass the pot.

A high quality diet was defined as high in fruits, vegetables, nuts, unsaturated fats from fish or olive oil, and whole grain breads/cereals, and low in red and processed meats, high fat dairy, and desserts.

Raspberries are good for your brain too. Several studies in flavonoids, which are found in raspberries, show a positive correlation to memory improvement and slows the decline in cognitive ability due to aging. Okay, they studied animals but they said it still counts.

I have to wonder why they didn’t just do it on humans as it’s not dangerous to eat raspberries.  Maybe because humans eat too many different kinds of food to tweak out what the raspberries do?  But they ran the coffee test on humans. Hmmmm.  Maybe humans will let scientists poke at them for free coffee but not free raspberries?  Ok, ok.  I know what you’re thinking.  Move on, woman.  So here we go.  Geez, impatient much?

I’d like to see a longitudinal study on flavonoids and humans. However human studies show good things too. An 18-year Harvard longitudinal study found flavonoids reduced the risk of heart attack by 32% in young and middle-aged women.

Plus raspberries antioxidents slow many kinds of cancers by working against free radicals, inhibiting tumor growth and decreasing inflammation. The medical news today article said it worked against esophageal, lung, mouth, pharynx, endometrial, pancreatic, prostate, and colon cancers. That’s an impressive list of cancers.

Was my brain my motivation for eating raspberries for breakfast like a good girl?   Uhhhh, actually raspberries were on sale for $1.  I love sales.  Darn! I could’ve faked it and you would have thought I was motivated by brains rather than bargains.  I just lucked out it was good for me.  Grins.
