Tanka : slippery, copious, vigor, energy

copious haikus
writing daily — take a break
so easy to stop
slippery slope — habit’s gone
my pen lost it’s drive, no pep

tanka by M. Nakazato LaFreniere

Took a break from writing everyday, well, nearly everyday.  Funny thing about breaks.  It’s so easy to break a habit, that tick-tock in your head pushing you to finish one before midnight.

After a couple days, inertia starts to pool where once ink flowed.  Words get dammed. Ideas are stuck.  The clock slows, stops.

What do you do?  Staring at the blank page.  Have to scribble is all.  Break up all that emptiness.  Fool it into thinking it will be full.  Put pen to paper.  Fingers to keyboard.  Write a sentence, not even a sentence, a fragment.  Write 5 words.  Not even words, five syllables.

Five.  I can do that.  This is why I do haiku.  Starting with five syllables, I can build worlds.
