bleary-eyed, yawning
stumbling into the cafe
sniff. caffeine! life’s zest

Okay, I admit it. I do have an addiction. I love a latte as a little pick-me-up. And California, well, they have cafes everywhere! So I sampled a few while I was there and remembered why I used to love Cal so much.
The cafe at Loma Brewing Co. is located at the backend of a building. I found it by parking in the free parking. Parking on the street was crazy hard so I went behind the buildings and found a free parking lot that went on for blocks behind the main street buildings. Very cool. Loma Brewing Co. had a restaurant with their own crafted beer in the front 3/4 of the building. The cafe part was like a secret little gem. The plus is a sofa to sit with a friend. The minus is the chairs at the tables were hard.
The barista serves up your latte with love, a carefully crafted heart. I loved it. I’ve been in other cafes that were a lot faster but I’d rather have a bit of latte art. Someday I’ll find a place that makes the swan, teddy bears and Pacman. The latte was delicious, perfect for a cool morning.

(Note: I just spent a couple weeks in Lupin Lodge, clothing-optional naturist resort in the Santa Cruz mountains near Los Gatos. I’m back home now but will be posting a few haibuns with some of the pics I took while in California.)
