Senryu : milestone

milestones are tricky
almost a year has gone by
likes, views and new friends

senryu by M. Nakazato LaFreniere

How does one measure a blog?  The number of posts: 346?  The views: 14,310?  The visits: 4,464?  The likes: 4568?

Or is it the conversations?  The writing companions and friends you make?  The circle of people who read your stuff and whose stuff you read?  The things you learn and think about?

Almost a year has gone by since I started blogging.  A year is a milestone.  I discovered I enjoyed writing haiku/senryu and the occasional tanka and what’s more can do it just about everyday.  I have enjoyed conversations, learned a lot, visited a lot of other blogs.  Found new poetry, photographs and warm sharing circles.

How will I measure this year? What milestone will I have passed?

My milestone is measured in 17 syllables, in the itch to write a poem before I can go to bed, and to see what others have written today.  What can I capture today in 17 syllables that will carry some small measure of truth, or give joy, or connect an idea?

When I pass my milestone, where will I be going?  Do I care?  Not really.  It’s enough that I’m on my way and I have companions on the road.  See you on the road.
