I am at Wordcamp Phoenix at the moment. Since Phoenix is so close and the $40 fee is for Friday & Saturday with lunches paid, I thought it might be interesting to come. I am a bit surprised at how young the crowd is here. The bulk look like they are in their twenties but maybe it’s just those of us taking a break inbetween workshops and getting online on our break.  I brought my laptop HP Pavilion but I am a bit envious of the macs — they look so cute and small (lightweight which when you are carrying something from workshop to workshop you really start to notice every pound — hey, on the laptop, not on me!)

I was going to go to the workshop getting started with WordPress because I figured in a 3 hour workshop, I’d be bound to learn something as on my own I tend to learn different pieces depending on what I want to do and what problem I am solving and other things get skipped over.  However it was full so that was out.  They are going to re-offer it in the afternoon because a number of people couldn’t get in.  Unfortunately, the afternoon has workshops I’d like to go to like “the anatomy of a hacked site.”

Tomorrow at 10:00 is Gutenberg: Changing the Landscape of the Open Web.  I’m interested in that because that’s going to be the next permutation of WordPress.  When that rolls out, there is some expectation of some themes not working with it until the makers update them.  I am interested to hear if there may be other problems (changing themes is really no big deal for me) and also what advantages it’s going to bring.  It’s going to be in the auditorium so should everyone who is interested.

Amazon:

HP Pavilion.  I love my laptop.  It doesn’t crash all the time like my last one did–mostly because I have the NVidia GeForce graphics card upgrade.  Amazon says it only weighs 4.67 lbs.  Honestly it feels heavier — especially because one of the workshops I went to today is on the other side of the building.  But it fits in my backpack so it’s no biggie.

This is the Macbook I think people are using here. Amazon says it weighs in at 2 lbs.  Can you believe it?  That’s less than half the weight of mine although my screen is much bigger.  I miss my old mac.  It had Final Cut Pro and a lot of cool programs on it.  I don’t think my old disks would even work on the new laptops any more.  At some point even Apple had to give up on making everything backwards compatible, sighs.

I decided to show the pics of the laptops this way as then I don’t have to worry about copyright infringement and I didn’t bring my camera to the conference.  Still if you click on the link and buy a book or something, I get a commission.  For books, it’s 4.5%.I earned $3 in September, $3.41 in October and 90 cents last month so not going to get rich anytime soon, lol.  I think Amazon requires this next quote but I’ve noticed on some sites they have written their own personal text so I’m not sure. “We are a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for us to earn fees by linking to Amazon.com and affiliated sites.”
