Autumn chill

autumn chill, rot and ruin
trees naked amidst dead leaves
dancing on gold fields

haiku by M. Nakazato LaFreniere

“Weren’t you going to share your story — the one that started with ‘The autumn chill descended over the town and with it came rot and ruin‘?  I love that line.  It is so evocative.”  ….  “I know I said I also was going to write a short piece. Ok, ok, I admit it.  There was no fiction involved.”  Hangs my head,  peeking through my lashes.  “I had to.  The haiku just popped into my head. Don’t you think the trees look like they are dancing?” …  “No?”  Pours gin liberally into a glass.  Passes it over.  “Here, this might help with that.” … “Oh, that’s ok. You don’t have to be the designated driver.  We aren’t going anywhere. Here’s another haiku.”  … “What?  You thought when I invited you over to look at my opus, I had something else in mind?  Geez! What kind of a writer do you think I am?!!”

The photo was from the First Line Friday challenge.

(note 10 days later on 11/1/17) Oooh, just noticed my count was off on the first line. darn it.  But i like it so well, I can’t give it up. Shhh.  give the haiku readers more gin.  Maybe they won’t notice either.

october 31st theme: autumn/October by Magaly Guerrero. (“Share any poem you like. Any form. Old or new. We’ll delight in it. If there is a hint of Autumn or October in its lines, I’ll probably dance with it. Fine, I will kiss it on the mouth.”
