Wk 2: Come Join Cat Senryu / Haiku / Tanka Challenge
25more and I (cactus haiku) participated last time. I know it’s been awhile but I’ve been thinking about it and decided to expand it from the cat haiku premise. I think I will change it up a bit in the coming weeks and have it be different things like fish, birds, mammals, whatever. This week, let’s do any animal.
Here’s a funny one by Basho:
Clouds passing over –
a dog peeing on the run
village winter shower
Now it’s your turn!
Here’s the challenge:
Week 3: Write a animal haiku/senryu/tanka!
Rules of Engagement:
Topic: animal (any warm-blooded mammal)
Duration: One week (11/18/17 – 11/24/17)
Poetic form: Haiku, senryu or tanka
Syllable counts: Traditional: either 5-7-5 or 5-7-5-7-7 just to make the form recognizable.
Anything else: Nope, you don’t have to follow other traditions like kiru (abrupt change of imagery), kireji (cutting word or punctuation), or kigo (seasonal reference). Don’t want to add a lot rules. Be nice if you did but not required.
Where: In the comments below, paste the link to your cat haiku post. Pingbacks are also great. Also in the comments if you want or don’t have a blog, you can paste the haiku/senryu/tanka. You can also add a url for an animal image with it (as long as you own the copyright or it is copyright free). Images are not mandatory but a poem is whether in the comment or on your blog at the link location.
For first five people to include the image url in the comments with their poem, you can put the image url in the comment with the link or the poem. As long as the image is less than 150pixels length or width, I can make the image url you post in the comments show as a picture by handcoding html when I moderate. WordPress only allows the blog owner to add img src html into the comments. Because it’s not automated, I am limiting it to the first 5 who add the image url so I don’t spend forever handcoding html. We may not even get 5 people posting but just in case.
Comments and pingbacks are moderated so it may take up to 24 hours to show.
Looking forward to seeing everybody’s contributions!
