Daily Haiku / Senryu : Tame

3+

Pinkie is not tamed
snarling, biting a close hand
warning done, she purrs

senryu by M. Nakazato LaFreniere

I admit Pinkie is schizoid.  When she was a kitten, she once brought home a baby rattlesnake.  Scared mom who killed it right away.

When you try to pet Pinkie she doesn’t know whether she should bite you or purr so she does both.  She prefers to be petted with your foot.  Crazy cat. But if you’re sick, she’ll lie by you all day, keeping you company without complaining.  That’s when she knows exactly what to do.

  1. Cats make great haiku topics/characters. Really, cats are haiku! Mine is a bit, uh, calmer than Pinkie!

    1. One is yearning to be in; one is yearning to be out. Isn’t that the way it always is? Thanks for sharing the link to your cat haikus. I also like the way you used the photos to make a story to go with them.

I love cat haikus too. I wish I could figure out how Daily Post added those little pics in the comment section with the pingbacks. It would be cool t have a cat haiku day where everybody could share their cat haiku/senryu.

  2. Lucky, our Tortie, has PTSD and is anti-social. She will stay just a wee bit out of hands reach to be petted and any loud noise will send her running.
Our other cat, Hiro, is quite the opposite and he loves to pick on Lucky. Cats are fun to watch as each one has their own idiosyncrasies.

  3. I wish people could post a picture in the reply section. I’d love to see a picture of your cats. The name Hiro is cool. Did you name him after that guy in Heroes, the tv series?

    1. Actually, no. He was found under a barrel at my husband’s work. He was a scrawny thing and put up such a fight when I bathed him. A champ to put up with me blow drying him. So there you go, a little hero. I wanted a Japanese spelling, ergo, Hiro.

        1. Heck no, he put up a fight! Afterwards Hiro was rewarded with wet cat food. I would like to say that his family is feral. They all are seen around the workplace.

  4. We have one cat like Pinkie. He’s one of three rescue sibling kittens. They were feral as we discovered the hard way, see my “Quest for life” post. We have a black cat too. Always had cats but as a kid my parents raised poodles.

    1. My mom and dad got Pinkie from the Humane Society when she was just a kitten. I don’t know if she had been a feral rescue kitten like yours. Right after they got her, my dad went into the hospital so she was alone for basically her first month at home.

I’d love to read your Quest for life post but there wasn’t a search thingie on your site. What is the url please?

    2. Coincidences are wonderful aren’t they? I do believe the first Pinkie may have some feral blood in her.
