“Sequacious” is another new word for me, introduced by Gizzylaw, Talkin’ to Myself, at RDP for today’s prompt.  This one means “intellectually servile” or “subservient, inclined to follow”.

Since I’ve started following as well as prompting Saturdays on RDP, I’ve been introduced to a new word at least every couple of weeks — this week two!  That says a lot to me because I thought my reading vocabulary was pretty wide.

Part of it I think is that when you have seven different prompters, people read different topics, have varied life experiences so the potential vocabulary pool is very wide.  The other part is that when you’re a prompter, sometimes you do research to find new words you don’t know or to find a fun fact on an old word. And because you use the new word right away, turning it over in your mind to fit it into a poem, story or essay, the word gets reinforced immediately.

I miss the Daily Post but honestly? I like RDP better.  The mix of easy words and hard words as well as new words and familiar words.  I don’t like the way the community has scattered but new communities have been made and are growing. Writers no longer have 200 posts to the same prompt but many communities are already hitting between 20-50. It’s harder on the newbies to find those writing communities though.

Mostly what I  miss about the Daily Post is their theme where a snapshot of a person’s blog showed as the pingback.  Still, it’s probably a theme that uses a lot of resources to create those snapshots and store them on a server indefinitely.  Not having it though, doesn’t really effect the writing prompts as much as it has the photography challenges.  That quick visual was more likely to encourage people to click to see a larger image and one-sentence pingbacks just don’t have the same cachet.  Scanning down the lines, clicking, liking, wham bam thank you ma’am and back to the grid.

No longer do you have 600 photos to a centralized weekly prompt.  You click now if you like the title, the blogger, or just randomly or because you click everyone. I still miss that visual pingback theme and the huge photographic community of 500 or more although I do enjoy other photo challenges these days.

So how do you like the writing/photography prompt sites you’ve started following in these post-DailyPost days?  What do you like about your favorite one(s)?

(It’s ok to post the link to the site if you want, I moderate everything so   a link will show — just be patient if your comment doesn’t show because they don’t until I sit down and go through them so depends if I’m home or not.)

on Ragtag Community

The Ragtag Daily Prompt now has it’s own blog site called the “Ragtag Community“. Each day of the week a prompt is presented by a different person. Come and participate by posting writing or images evoked by the word and add your pingback or link to the comments there. Hope to see you at Ragtag Community!

I have also started collecting prompt sites on my onblogging.net site

Those are main links so you can go to the site and find the latest post.  For photography, lately I’ve been doing a weekly roundup on the latest topics of various challenges to make it easier for people to scan down a list of topics and choose what they want to go out and photograph.  The last one was posted on Saturday 9/1/18

August 27- Sept 1st Listing of this Week’s Photochallenges

If you happen to know a good writing or photograph prompt site that I’ve missed, just let me know over there not on Cactus Haiku.  I’ll never remember to add it, if it’s over here.
