Senryu : 2017 into 2018

two thousand seventeen
one year dances out, next in
two thousand eighteen

senryu by M. Nakazato LaFreniere

luckily 2017 has exactly 5 syllables but it did make for a very short haiku

Love this video.  A few days ago, airport employees left their desks and broke out into dance to end the year much to the surprise of the people still in line. Now you know why they tell you you have to check in an hour early!

I love musicals so seeing people break out in song in real life in mundane surroundings is a pleasure. Folks at a mall were treated to Carmina Burana

Having just discovered flash mobs two decades after their invention, I adore them.  Never seen one but thankfully there are people with cameras everywhere (and official videographers) capturing the ones we  can’t be at.  In this one, a little girl starts everything off

Had enough of classical? Here’s one at a Filipino prison, not a flash mob but rather a tribute to Michael Jackson.  I don’t know who the group is that is leading them though.

And the next one is a revisit back to classical — I couldn’t resist.  I was laughing so hard.  It’s great.  You know how people complain about classical being boring?  Try being the cellist …

I know flash mobs and The Piano Guys have been out awhile but I discovered them this week.  So often we get caught up in our own little worlds that we forget to look out, to see what people are sharing.  From Lindsey Stirling’s bedazzled violin, The Piano Guys taking the piss out of the seriousness in classical  and flash mobs, I am enjoying classical music in a way I never thought to.  I’ve always loved Mozart (yep, that 1980s movie with the pink hair, loved that movie) but this has pushed my boundaries out.

It’s been a difficult year but life is both pain/anger/fear and joy/love/courage.  I am choosing to focus on joy/love/courage, following where that leads me. As the year ends, what new delights have you found this past year?

Also Chèvrefeuille put together Christmas Stockings, an ebook of holiday poems using Japanese poetry form on his Carpe Diem Haiku Kai site, right hand column.  It’s a fun book so go download it!  Besides I have a haiku in there too.

I have signed up as an Amazon affiliate so I may get a small payment if anyone buys anything by clicking a link. The sheet said 4.5% if it’s a book. I earned $3 in August and $3.41 in October so not going to get rich anytime soon, lol.  I think Amazon requires this next quote but I’ve noticed on some sites they have written their own personal text so I’m not sure. “We are a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for us to earn fees by linking to Amazon.com and affiliated sites.”
