Senryu : Tuesday Platform : The Highwayman

Dovedale by Moonlight circa 1785 by Joseph Wright of Derby, oil on canvas

sweet voice sings sadness
of love waiting, death’s warning
highwayman’s parting

senryu by M. Nakazato LaFreniere

The Tuesday Platform shared a beautiful haunting song for the poetry challenge: The Highwayman sung by Loreena McKennit. I highly recommend a listen.  It’s a sad song though.  Alfred Noyes wrote the poem in 1906.

    1. Thank you. Took me a while to find the right painting by trying to use google search to find 17th or 18th century paintings — but then it was on Wikimedia after all which is where I often go for photographs. Didn’t think to look there for a moonlight painting. Irony is, it was uploaded from the Google Cultural Institute (GCI) which I didn’t even know about. GCI looks pretty awesome. I’d write a senryu about it but it has too many syllables, laughing.
